About the project
The Orson Hyde Memorial Garden was created to commemorate the visit of Orson Hyde, missionary and apostle of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons), to Jerusalem in 1841. According to Church tradition, Hyde received a prophetic vision of the ingathering of the Jews to Palestine. On October 24, 1841, he climbed the Mount of Olives and offered a prayer of dedication. The garden, designed by Lepa Yahalom and Dan Tzur, includes walking paths, an assembly area and landscaping along the western slope of the Mount of Olives, providing excellent views of the Kidron Valley and the Temple Mount.
