About the project

The Jerusalem Foundation supported activities at the Helena Kagan Youth Center beginning in 1972. The center, which is located near the Audre Rapoport Givat Gonen High School and the Givat Gonen Elementary School in the Katamon Tet neighborhood, provides after school activities for neighborhood youth and teens. In 2004, the center was renovated and enlarged by the British division of the Women’s International Zionist Organization (WIZO) and rededicated as the Helena Kagan Community Center for Youth & Communications. The center is named for Dr. Helena Kagan, a medical doctor who came to Jerusalem in the last years of the Ottoman Empire to work for the city’s children.
