About the project

The Dekalim (Palm Trees) School is Jerusalem’s only school for autistic children. The school serves approximately 50 students, aged 6-21. The Jerusalem Foundation has supported the purchase of equipment for the school, and in 1996 supported a major renovation project that included improvements to the entry area, schoolyard and bathrooms, and construction of art, woodworking, and music and movement rooms, and a fully-equipped apartment to teach students basic home skills. The Jerusalem Foundation also has supported therapeutic and educational programs to supplement the school curriculum, including an educational kitchen and coffee shop for teaching behavioral standards and money management, and an adventure therapy program that gives children the opportunity to ride bikes, go rappelling and more.
